JRA_Bloomingdale Trail 606_Autumn
Building on Chicago’s legacy for innovative and world-class public spaces, The 606 is a park like no other, with the elevated 2.7-mile Bloomingdale Trail for bikers, runners, and walkers as its centerpiece and a series of ground-level parks. Designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, the 606 brings together arts, history, design, trails, event spaces, alternative transportation avenues, and green space. The park and trail system serves 80,000 neighbors—including 20,000 children and 21 schools—within a ten-minute walk and is already a popular citywide attraction and tourist destination.

Jacobs/Ryan Associates (JRA) was asked to join a team headed by TranSystems to assist them with construction engineering of the project. JRA's scope of services included construction oversight, tagging of specimen landscape material, review of all containerized materials, plant material inspection upon delivery, boulder layout, plant material layout, irrigation review, sod review, plan review, value engineering review, soil test reviews, coordination with entire construction team and clients, landscape acceptance, and observation.
